The room itself is super comfy, everything is clean and the balcony is a really nice add-on. We had a double room. Super cool and artsy atmosphere, the bookstore on the first floor is so cozy and a nice place to relax with a drink. The restaurant next door, to which you get breakfast discount coupons, serves tasty and affordable food (with an excellent freshly squeeze orange juice!). The location couldn't be better, you're in front of a museum, close to convenient stores, banks, restaurants, coffees, shops and at walking distance of two different MRT station. The staff is super helpful and sweet, we'll come back next time we're in Taipei! You're close to everything but don't feel like your in the middle of a busy spot.
My husband and I stayed at OwlStay Flip Flop Hostel near Taipei Main Station for eight days and had a generally positive experience. The location is definitely one of its biggest strengths. It’s about a 5–8 minute walk from Taipei Main Station, making it extremely convenient for getting around the city. There are also plenty of food options nearby. The hostel itself is clean and modern, with a nice minimalist design. The beds were comfortable, and I really appreciated the privacy curtains. We booked a room with a private bathroom, which was well-maintained and added to our overall comfort. Another plus point is the free breakfast provided every day—it was delicious! I’ll be leaving a separate review for the breakfast place (好初早餐). The common area was cozy—a great place to relax, have a meal and meet other travelers. There was also a cute bookstore next to it, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. One downside, however, is the poor soundproofing. Noise from the hallway and other guests travels quite easily, so it might be disruptive at night if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, it’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a clean, convenient, and reasonably priced place to stay in Taipei
IMPORTANT: Reasonable price, accommodating staff, and very strategic location especially if you don't want to stay in crowded areas like Ximending but can still access the Taipei Main Station easily. IMPORTANT: They are strict with the 3 PM Check-in. You may either wait at the common area or leave your luggage at their storage area. I tried to ask them for early check-in days prior to our arrival but no reply. IMPORTANT: The staff both onsite and online can understand and speak English so it is easy to communicate. IMPORTANT: There is a lift (elevator) at the front building. Friendly for elderly/PWD. They are very responsive to queries and booking processes via their website. If you are okay with sandwiches and drinks for breakfast, the breakfast vouchers they provide are very beneficial. The food is good (for us) and the voucher offers big discount. I just have hesitation using the kitchen/common area since it is located inside the bookstore within the hostel's compound which requires membership or you need to purchase to use the area. I haven't really clarified this since we only used the kitchen few times. Yes, the kitchen/common area is at a separate building from the main building. They also allow pets on a leash inside the bookstore :) Almost all toilets I went to in Taiwan, this hostel is no exception, uses toilet papers only (no bidets) so better manage your expectations.
It’s suitable for backpacking since room size and no elevator and restroom should be improved. Friendly staff. Best location if you have a redeye flight. Just 10min walking to the bus terminal.
Absolutely nightmare! Had to call the police over NO HOT WATER. I’ve never had to call the police on a hotel until now. There was hot water at 4 PM, but by 9 PM, it was barely lukewarm. With Taipei at 11°C, expecting us to shower in cold water is insane—especially since my travel companion has a cold. The staff was incredibly dismissive, claiming water temperature is 'subjective.' When I asked for a refund to find another place, they refused. I even offered to use an electric kettle to heat water for a sponge bath, but they said they didn't have one. Worst of all, the staff lied. That night, he claimed he was 'just a junior staffer' and couldn't make decisions. But when I called the next day to speak to a manager, it was the same person, and he suddenly claimed he was the manager. Absolute trash service. No matter how cheap the room is, hot water is a basic right. Avoid this place like the plague! You have repeatedly insisted that hot water was available. However, even the police officer who arrived on-site confirmed there was none, which led to the tripartite discussion to find a resolution. Had I known about the lack of hot water from the start, I would not have requested a refund. Just because other guests did not report the issue does not mean it doesn't exist.
