Stick to the smaller dishes like the bao, king oyster mushrooms, oyster omelette etc, they are phenomenal. But the more expensive ones like the gourmet crab dish and steamed tooth fish is just not worth it, the dishes are prepared very well but they are just severely lacking in flavor unfortunately for the price point.
Shinyeh has long been an iconic restaurant in Taiwan, and this brand truly turn the Taiwanese cuisine to a fine dining level. We booked two compartments to cater a total of 20 guests. Although the size of the two tables are not identical, it basically led to no big issues. Instead of ordering the set menu, we decided to make our own selections that includes all tradiational favorites. The gem must goes to Guabao (刈包), which costs 160 per bun but it truly worth it. The minimum cost for two party rooms are 50,000, so the average cost can be as high as 2,500 per person. A bit pricey but it is in fact much better than Mipon.
Food was good, my wife and I also enjoyed the setting and environment. The reason for 4 stars because they clashed the courses ( brought the next course before I finished the current course), I was a bit surprised for Michelin star restaurant would make this kind of mistake.
Many many dishes to order from. We were two people and ordered five dishes, where one was the more expensive crab, two beers and tea, and we paid 4000 NT$. We were most satisfied with the cheapest dish (the buns) . Overall lacking in refined seasoning (namely salt) . The crab was wholly unsalted (but the rice beneath was slightly more seasoned) . We were strongly discouraged to order the aged Chinese rice wine because we were Westerners and they had never had a Westerner enjoy that drink apparently, so we chickened out even though I might say that we are pretty bold in our tasting preference and palate.
Excellent dishes. Fresh and hugh quality ingredients. Never been happier and heart content. Finally thank you for the great table service. 💯
