This cathedral was once bombed and was restored using modernist and art, deco, designs, and the combination of those with the Gothic remnants of the church made for a very interesting visit. We spoke with a volunteer and she explained to us the interesting history surrounding this cathedral. This cathedral is definitely worth a visit and a highlight of our trip to Cardiff. Highly recommended.
My visit to Llandaff Cathedral was truly special. Walking the trail towards the cathedral felt so relaxing, and hearing the sound of the water brought me so much peace. The surroundings, the calm atmosphere, and the beauty of the place made me feel refreshed and happy. It is one of those places that stays with you even after you leave. I will definitely visit again soon
It took my breath away. The structure was so detailed and amazing. There was a wedding taking place when we arrived, but we were able to enter some parts of the building to take photos. It's well worth a visit
Prior to visiting Cardiff I only knew the Bishop of Llandaff as a red-flowered dahlia but now I know he was an actual bishop of this cathedral. It's an impressively large cathedral that is oddly some distance from the city centre. Although it has ancient fabric it has been extensively restored. In the 1950s a massive aluminium sculpture by Jacob Epstein was mounted of top of a huge concrete arch spanning the nave. It dominates the interior and blocks views and in my view looks out of place and scale. There is also a new organ which is equally massive and the pipes sit astride both sides of the nave. I attended an evening choral concert which was very good but the organ was strangely muted.
A magical place slightly outside the city centre but easy to reach by public transport. The short walk to it feels like stepping into a novel. The surrounding area is charming and quiet. The cathedral’s exterior and interior are both beautiful, with stunning windows and detailed architecture. The surrounding graves add to the atmosphere. Definitely worth the trip.
