FREE entry! Currently running an exhibit of Dokoupil paintings across two floors. I am not normally a modern art person, but I find his works beautifully colorful and imaginatively whimsical. Painted with soap bubbles, this is quite a unique show worth stopping to see. Free and clean restroom available on the stairs between floors. Elevators available also and wheelchair friendly. Give it a try!
I am shocked by the recent (May 2026) exhibition of Juan Pedro Ayala, which includes explicit drawings depicting sexual violence and rape. We entered the exhibition without any prior warning about what we would encounter. At first, we saw a few harmless pictures of trees. Then we entered a section containing a long series of drawings showing various sexually explicit situations. These drawings included disturbing scenes of sexual violence including the rape of children, an unconscious woman, and through animals. We were deeply shocked, and seeing this without any explanation or trigger warning had a lasting emotional impact on us. The series was called “Serie Erótica.” I find it very difficult to understand what is “erotic” about the rape of children. We spoke to a staff member, who explained that, following government guidance, the museum informs families that this section is “art for adults.” That was the only warning provided. This exhibition is publicly funded, and I believe it could be highly re-traumatizing for people who have experienced sexual violence. I think there should be clear warnings and more responsibility in how such sensitive material is presented.
Free of charge, near the Santa Catalina Park. Interesting modern art in an old factory. The exhibition at the moment is on two floors. There's an elevator and a toilet, should you need one. If you are around the Park, then definitely visit!
Quite a nice gallery on two levels. It's literally just the art - no cafe, no toilets - but the exhibition I saw was good and worth the visit. Plus free entry!
Free modern art gallery. They had an exhibition of photography. Great photos very well done!
